KULO LUNA - Grace and beauty, these giant fins propel the whale at considerable speed over thousands of miles from feeding to breeding grounds. Whales are just as much at risk from toxic plastic waste in our oceans as humans from eating marine produce. The only difference is that the whales did not put it there. It is not their fault. It is our fault and the fault of our governments for allowing it to be dumped at sea. Most governments are doing nothing about removing it from the sea. They are content to limit plastic production on land - as per the Agreement of the G20 at Hamburg in 2017.

If you think that our heads of state should be doing more, please support us in any way that you can to make Kulo Luna a lasting message for those elected to represent us, to actually carry out the wished of the people.

These pages are all about developing the Kulo Luna adventure story. If you are new to the industry, you will find out that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to climb this mountain. Hats off to those who mastered the art. For those of you just starting out these tips should help ease the pain a little.

TIPS FOR WRITING A WINNER

1. Developing the idea
2. Form and format
3. Character
4. Beginnings
5. Middles
6. Endings
7. Scenes
8. Dialogue
9. Rewriting or Editing

1. What is the story ?

Get you story down on one sheet of paper as a story map, a road from the beginning to the end. This might form a series of chapter or scene headings in logical sequence of the journey the audience is about to embark on.

These ideas are only as good as the characters that drive them, and all good ideas need to be dramatized to give action.

Drama literally means 'action' - to act. What is the central dramatic action in your idea?

What is the story? Do you have a compelling enough journey for the character and audience to go on?

Creating a coherent world is crucial. What are the rules of your story universe? What do and don't we need to know and see? Less is often more – the writer needs to know all the rules and background – but the audience only needs enough to stay hooked without being confused. Never confuse your audience.

What kind of story is it? Are you using a recognizable genre, such as thriller or romantic comedy? If you are inspired or influenced by an archetypal story of old, what is it that's different about your idea? You need to bring a fresh perspective to familiar tales, worlds, subjects and genres.

What the experience feels like for the audience is also crucial. What is the tone and feel of the story? Are they consistent and coherent? A slasher movie that suddenly turns into a romcom (or vice versa) is annoying due to mixing up the emotions. Sometimes clashing genres can work if they’re handled intelligently.

And the emotional response you are aiming for is very important. What physical reaction are you looking for? Something so poignant it makes the audience cry? So funny it make their sides hurt from laughing too much? So terrifying it makes the hairs on the nape of their neck stand on end? So thrilling their hearts are in their mouths and they're on the edge of their seat?

You need to know why writing this idea now is important. Is it something that keeps you up at night and has really got under your skin? What’s it about? What’s the theme - what are you trying to explore, what are you hoping to communicate?

Don’t write anything you don’t care about just to be ‘expedient’ – because it will only ever be competent at best. Is your idea one that will strike a chord with an audience? Who do you think will want to see it? If you have a burning desire to write, then it’s more likely to grab attention.

Humpback wales are dying from plastic pollution

MARINE LIFE - This humpback whale is one example of a magnificent animal that is at the mercy of human activity. Humans are for the most part unaware of the harm their fast-lane lifestyles are causing. We aim to change that by doing all we can to promote ocean literacy. The Kulo Luna story is one of our initiatives to promote ocean issues.
