Charles Rolls lobbied for a level playing field for automobiles to advance

POLITICS - As industries become threatened by new technology, they typically embrace it in public and talk passionately about its potential, but only in terms of how the new technology can support the existing industries. Under absolutely no circumstances must the new technology be allowed to come into a position to replace the existing industries.

A famous example of this is the Locomotives Act of 1865 in the United Kingdom, better known as the Red Flag Act. It was a law that limited the speed of automobiles (horseless carriages)  to 2 miles per hour in urban areas, and required them to always have a crew of three: a driver, a stoker, and a man who would walk before the automobile waving a red flag.

Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous? That is the power of money! Politicians will dance any tune to the sound of cash in their wallets. As you might imagine from this example, we have very little chance of saving the planet, unless we force out the greed and vote in the sensible.

Politicians are elected to represent the people, but in fact epitomize the financiers and industrialists who have been exploiting planet earth just as hard as they can, leading to global warming, deserts, acid oceans and rising sea levels as the ice caps melt.

They could not have planned the demise of life on earth if they had planned it, save only for thermonuclear world war three. And that day might not be as far fetched as one might imagine, when the food runs out!

Vote for green flag politicians

GREEN FLAG POLITICIANS - Give the go ahead for urgent renewable energy projects with state backed finance to make things happen during Research and Innovation stages, through to Innovation Action stage - perhaps with statutory boosts as appropriate. Otherwise, manufacturers will carry with business as usual without developing sustainable solutions.

FOR OUR CHILDREN - European Maritime Day: The children of Burgas present Alberto Laplaine Guimarães with a gift from the Bulgarian City. Sustainable growth and aims for a circular economy are for our children and their children, and their children, and their children - lest we forget why we are working to clean our act up. As trustees of planet earth we should hand the world to our successors in better shape than we found it. Copyright © photograph June 1 2018 Cleaner Ocean Foundation.
